Desiree Smith Talks On Witnessing Tupac’s Deal With Death Row In Jail
Tupac Shakur was sentenced from 1 and a half to 4 and a half years jail time in 1995. He was released after his bail was paid by Death Row Records. Back then, Suge Knight scored his major achievement signing one of the greatest rappers of all time.
With the agreement Pac to record few albums so he can pay back to Suge, Death Row’s roaster got enriched like never before.
The process of setting Tupac free and covering his bail, started while Tupac was already in jail. Suge was visiting Tupac in the Clinton Correctional Facility several times and the last time before Pac gets out of prison they settled up the deal with signing a hand-written contract between the “2Pacalypse Now” mastermind and Death Row’s attorney, David Kenner.
The story behind Tupac’s contract with Death Row.
Desiree Smith, Tupac’s Ex-girlfriend provided new details over the day that Suge and Kenner came to visit Pac in jail and signed the contract. With a conversation with the online channel – “The Art Of Dialogue”, Dez opened up about how she became a “Witness” on the hand-written contract that day.
“David Kenner walked in first and then I see this big guy, you know, his red shirt, jeans, “Larger than life presence”…I see Suge. They came in and sat down at the table with us”
“He (Tupac) got to sign the papers and he asked me to be the witness on the paper”. Desiree said in the conversation.
Later on, Smith revealed some of her private moments with Tupac, after he was already out on bail.
“He sent me a flight…you know, first class out to L.A. “He (Tupac) told me his assistant is picking me up…when we got in the car, he was like: Pac wanted me to play some music for you off his new album”. Smith then says that the tracks played in the car were “I Ain’t Mad At Cha” and “Rather Be Ya N.I.G.G.A.
Making of All Eyez On Me
Desiree shares her story from the studio after Pac was released and was working on All Eyez On Me album.
“The next day we went to the studio, he played me “All Eyez On Me” showed me stuff he (Tupac) was working on…Outlawz was there, they were smoking, chilling like the old time.”
