DMX Will Be Honored With Statue Or A Street Named After Him In Yonkers
According to the latest news, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano plans to honor DMX in long term by creating a statue of the late rapper or a street named after him in X’s hometown.
DMX has passed away at the age of 50 on Friday (April 9) after suffering a heart attack and the world still can’t handle the loss of one of the most influential names in the hip hop industry. Rappers from every generation and fans express their sorrow via social media and multiple vigils.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano went on Twitter to honor DMX, shortly after the late rapper was pronounced dead.
“Today our city mourns the loss of a musical icon and someone who always gave back to Yonkers — the city he loved.
Earl Simmons, aka @DMX, was a man of exceptional talent. His spirit will live on in the power of his music and leave a lasting impact on his tremendous following,” Mayor Spano wrote in his tweet.
The post is accompanied by a video of Mike Spano talking about DMX.
“It wasn’t that long ago when we were together and he was providing food to the homeless, for the people of our city,” Mayor Spano says.
“He had many challenges, we all know that. But he’s a person that, not only did he have challenges, God gave him some wonderful gifts. He was just a talented entertainer who was able to inspire love in the hearts of so many of us,” Spano continues.

According to TMZ, Mayor Spano will let X’s family to chose which way the city of Yonkers will honor the rap legend – by statue or a street named after him.
