Independent Hip-Hop Artist DayLite announces new single Drunken Master and teases upcoming Music Video and Project.
Underground Rap has a new contender in Martial Art’s Teacher, DayLite. Inspired by her Tae Kwon Do background and a love for old Kung Fu movies, fostered by her Father, Soaring Eagles Tae Kwon Do School Owner, Master Jones, her new song Drunken Master captures the braggadocios nature of Jackie Chan’s portrayal of the young bull headed character in 1978’s cult classic movie, Drunken Master.
The song, produced by VisTheKid, is less than three minutes and leaves you wanting more of her smooth tone and flow. It’s a simple concept with catchy lyrics, a nice slapping bass, a funky melodic tone, and refreshingly no cussing.
DayLite is set to follow up this single with an official music video before December. Her last song and music video, Granite (released in May of 2022) is still making it’s rounds through film festival’s having already been awarded a Bronze Medal by the Global Music Awards. She promises new music in December and teases a new project titled Warrior In A Garden, sticking with her warrior attitude and Samurai aesthetic.
DayLite was raised in Vallejo CA in a huge family of 8 Black Belts. Her first job was working at her families Black owned Tae Kwon Do School. She took an early interest in art with plenty of time on her hands due to being Home Schooled. She wrote poetry and songs and performed at talent shows, musical plays and open mic’s for years before ever recording a rap.
At 18 DayLite went by Deezy and dropped a mixtape titled The Experiment Vol 1. After a few years in a group and then a long hiatus, DayLite reemerged in 2018 dropping her first digital release and first album titled The Mass Education of DayLite. Her new sound of slapping beats and deeper content would continue to be a common thread in all of the releases that would follow. Her second album Omni (05/2020) would be an upgrade to the same style of the former, with more features, unique producers, and better sound quality. Her Stand out tracks on that album would be Han Solo, Gate Keeper, Self-Control, and Tuition.
The best thing about diving into her music catalog is you can clearly hear the growth and exponential potential of this artists trajectory. Her vulnerable lyrics are relatable and each song’s subject matter fit a different mood. DayLite grew up listening to everything from Sade and Lauryn Hill to Mac Dre and E-40, her current favorite artists are Sa-Roc, Rapsody, and Isaiah Rashad.
Her flow is very smooth and you can hear the Bay Area influence in her delivery and production selection, however her content and subject matter is unique and tasteful. You can follow her on Spotify and Apple Music. It’s deep without sounding preachy. It has the vibe of both ratchet and woke, or spiritual and hyphy and it’s a fun experience.
“I’d rather be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war. That means I’m hyphy- conscious. I want my peace but I stay ready to fight for it.” -DayLite

When she was about 10 years old, my husband and I hosted the Temptations at a business event. Right out of nowhere, one of the lead singers asked us if we had a child at home that sang all the time. We were shocked, kinda like he been in our house watching Daylite driving us all a little crazy. We said yes. He told us not to discourage her. See how God works? That was the day Daylite was born, and we didn’t even know it.
So proud of you sis! When she became a teen her poetry took off and morphed into rapping! I really appreciated her art and lyrics and I like to say I’m her #1 fan! Proud of you Daylite, keep shining!!
