The Roots Honored With Philly Avenue Named After Them
People who have already visited Philly before know that the city has a lot to offer to its visitors. It is a lifetime experience to wander on the streets of this so famous town in the state of Pennsylvania. Besides that, the city of Philly has given to the music world one great gift and this is the legendary group The Roots.
It was originally formed in 1987. They charmed the audience with their different approach to hip-hop music, using especially live instruments and putting jazz and eclectic approach to the usual style. With their several studio albums, being guests in many other projects with other entertainers, live appearances and concerts, The Roots were announced as one of the twenty-five best groups of all time.
The Roots made history with their work and they still continue to honor the music as they are now house band at NBC’s most popular show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. They also do live shows here and there as they are rated as one of the best shows in the world still.
Their home city will never forget how proud they feel every time the name of the group is mentioned. That is why they logically deserved their place in the Hall of Fame and has a street called after them. “The Avenue of the Roots” is situated just below South Street.
Questlove – one of the members and also founders – was one of the first to show off with the amazing news. In his post, on Feb. 23, he mentions that he thought the band should wait for voting and the process would take longer, but surprisingly it is all fact now. The fast reaction of the City Council is due to the great influence The Roots caused on the Philadelphia life and the music business.
This is not the first time a street or square is named after musicians while they are still working and alive. During the previous year of 2019, a New York street took its new name. It was named after the Wu-Tang Clan – deserved, no doubts.
Here is a piece of art from The Roots just for a little throwback.
